"Chosen and Blessed: Unveiling the Mysteries of Our Inheritance in Christ"
Eph 1:3–14 (Christian Standard Bible)
3 Blessed is the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavens in Christ.
· Paul calls attention to God the Father, who has provided an abundance of blessings through Jesus Christ. Jesus is the conduit of the work, but God is the provider of these blessings.
· blessings—Greek, “blessing.” “All,” that is, “every possible blessing for time and eternity, which the Spirit has to give”
· We are made immortal, We are made free, We are made a son, We are made righteous, We are made a brother, We are made a fellow-heir, We reign with Christ, We are glorified with Christ.
· How are Heirs: Romans 8:17 Amplified Bible (AMP)
· And if [we are His] children, [then we are His] heirs also: heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ [sharing His spiritual blessing and inheritance], if indeed we share in His suffering so that we may also share in His glory.
4 For he chose us in him, before the foundation of the world, to be holy and blameless in love before him.
· The very first Spiritual Blessing that we are given is being Chosen by God!
· Before the foundation of the world.
· Before time existed, God chose you.
· Before building a home, we must pour the slab(Foundation)
5 He predestined us to be adopted as sons through Jesus Christ for himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,
· Predestined: The Greek word used here, proorizō, means “to choose” or “to decide beforehand.”
· Adoption: The giving of familial rights and privileges on a person born outside the family. As children of God, we now have a heavenly inheritance.
· into Himself,” that is, so that we should be partakers of the divine nature
· Divine Nature: Genesis 1:26 (Amplified Version) Then God said, “Let Us (Father, Son, Holy Spirit) make man in Our image, according to Our likeness [not physical, but a spiritual personality and moral likeness]; and let them have complete authority over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, the cattle, and over the entire earth, and over everything that creeps and crawls on the earth.”
6 to the praise of his glorious grace that he lavished on us in the Beloved One.
· Don’t get confused here; the Beloved one refers to Jesus Christ!
7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace
· In Jesus
· So, what does Redemption mean?????
· refers to the act of paying to free a slave.
· Because of the Blood, we are now Holy again.
8 that he richly poured out on us with all wisdom and understanding.
9 He made known to us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure that he purposed in Christ .
· So, what is the big mystery? Col 1:26–29.
· 26 the mystery hidden for ages and generations but now revealed to his saints. 27 God wanted to make known among the Gentiles the glorious wealth of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. 28 We proclaim him, warning and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone mature in Christ. 29 I labor for this, striving with his strength that works powerfully in me.
· The mystery of God’s will includes the restoration of this unity in and through Christ; one kingdom on earth and in heaven.
10 as a plan for the right time —to bring everything together in Christ, both things in heaven and things on earth in him.
· The Mystery is Christ in you. Because Christ is in you, Everything comes together for you also!
11 In him we have also received an inheritance, because we were predestined according to the plan of the one who works out everything in agreement with the purpose of his will,
· What is an Inheritance???
· Jesus put himself on the Cross, by doing so, we received the Inheritance of the Spirit.
· Also, We received the Inheritance of eternity!
12 so that we who had already put our hope in Christ might bring praise to his glory.
13 In him you also were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and when you believed.
14 The Holy Spirit is the down payment of our inheritance, until the redemption of the possession, to the praise of his glory.
· God wanted us to know and understand that He was serious about what He did in the book of Genesis.
· Although Adam dropped the ball; Jesus came and hand delivered the Holy Spirit back to man-kind.
· God, through Jesus, Breathed on us as a down payment! The down payment is a guarantee for all things Kingdom in the earth (Right now) and in Heaven(Future in eternity)
